‘Out with the old, in with the new…’ Such an old concept. But for me it’s suddenly a profound one.
Last night I had an interesting experience. Before the usual 9pm 12-step meeting I attend most nights, I had meditated for the second time that day. (Instead of meditating for 45 minutes straight like before, I have been trying to break it up into smaller segments). Anyway, I went to my meeting as usual, but about halfway there, I began having ‘downloads’ of high consciousness understandings. Sometimes this happens during meditation but often it will happen later in the day or right after – especially when I meditate and focus my energy on the heart chakra area, which I’ve been told is where we store permanent understandings (gained from past lives).
So, the information I was receiving was quite profound. It’s like all of my recent questions were answered, one after another. I went into the meeting still in the state of receiving. And I’m glad I did – the meeting was about humility and the removal of our character defects. Being in a meeting is definitely also a spiritual experience (a lot of inner healing takes place in those rooms if the person allows it), so the understandings continued to come through. I was able to understand the material we were reading at a new level as well. But then I suddenly realized that I had to get home and type out all of the ‘stuff’ I was receiving – right away! However, I didn’t want to leave the meeting early because there were a couple people I wanted to talk to after.
Well, at about 10 til meeting close, I couldn’t wait any longer and drove home. I immediately got only my computer and typed out several pages of information. Much of what came through was part of my life’s purpose, answered questions, and more, plus many new ideas and clarity.
One important concept that came through at a new level was this: Invite in the new and it will start pushing out the old. Sometimes it’s hard to let go of the old without something to replace it, so take in an overabundance of new so that the old has no choice but to flee. (This is hardly new information, it’s been around for ages, but it was very profound for me to receive at the time). I realized that I could apply it to many areas of my life, including weight and diet. And with old worn out thought patterns and behavior.
For example, I’ve realized that the more fruit and veggies I eat on any given day, the more I will cut down on everything else I eat. Especially apples – one day recently I had about seven of them, spaced through the day, and it cut down considerably on anything else I consumed. Yesterday I drank tons of raw veggie juice (celery, carrot, tomato, yellow pepper, romaine lettuce and cucumber), and it was filling and so full of enzymes and goodness that I didn’t want to eat much else.
And the ‘out with the old, in with the new’ thing applies to thoughts and behavior as well. When I keep myself busy throughout the day with concentration exercises, spiritual reading, meditation, talking to friends, helping others, etc, I don’t have time to sit around and loaf or waste time. (Since I’ve been self-employed for years, this has been a constant struggle throughout the day, I’ve spent a lot of time reading, watching TV and messing around on the internet over the years!) As for my thoughts, I’ve already been applying the concept without realizing it. Positive affirmations and correcting and replacing the older thoughts has become part of my daily routine, and the results are miraculous.
Anyway, I’m really excited because I received clarity on new ideas for both websites and other projects, so today I am going to begin work on these.
Diet update:
Some of you know I’ve been struggling with my weight for years. Yesterday, I was talking to my new metaphysics teacher and telling her about how I never had real weight problems until after I started my celebrity body gossip website. She said, “Of course, it’s because you began focusing on weight, and that which you focus on will grow.” Obviously I’ve heard this concept before, but I love when someone will point something out right at the right moment for you to really ‘get’ it. She is right. The more we focus on what we don’t want (excess weight, or cutting out ‘bad’ foods for example), the more it will ‘grow’ and be a problem. This is where the ‘out with the old, in with the new’ comes in – when we begin focusing on what we want, bringing in the ‘new’ and healthy, and leaving behind the ‘old’ and unhealthy: fresh fruits and veggies, exercise, a visualized image of what we want to become, positive choices towards a vibrant, fit and healthy body. She also mentioned how many of us focus too much on what we are ‘cutting out’ of our diets, therefore, creating within ourselves a sort of starvation situation. I spoke a little bit about this in a recent post, so I am now focusing on the body I want and the foods I want to fill myself with rather than what I don’t want.
On that note, today I plan to eat many, many organic apples, drink lots of water and more veggie juice and have a beautiful dinner (which is now officially my ‘favorite’ dinner) of brown rice, steamed veggies and a mixture of beans, all thrown together on a plate:
(On that note, I’ve started a new organic foodie blog here: OrganicVeggieGirl.)
So, I challenge you… what old idea or concept or behavior are you trying to do away with? How about turning your focus on what you want to replace it with instead? Do not let your attention stray to the ‘old’ behavior or thing. Keep your focus on what you are doing and becoming. Literally ‘fill’ yourself with it. If it’s a healthy diet, stuff yourself with fruits and veggies. (Organic apples work really well in this area!) If it’s a new frame of mind, say lots of positive affirmations throughout the day (out loud is preferable but thoughts are good too). Fill up on the new so that the old is pushed out!
